CACTUS (GREEN)

1 14sc 14
2 BLO: 9sc, 5slst 14
3 BLO: 14Sc 14
4 BLO: 9sc, 5slst 14
Keep repeating rows 3 and 4 until you have 12 rows.
Fasten off, leave a long tail and sew R12’s back Loops to the starting chain to create a tube shape.
Then sew the top hole closed by weaving the tail through the top stitches and pulling to close it.

THE SLIP STITCHES MAKE THE CACTUS SLIGHTLY THINNER AT THE BOTTOM. DON’T MAKE THEM Too TIGHT, SO YOU CAN EASILY WORK INTO THEM IN THE NEXT ROW.
WORKING INTO THE BACK LOOPS EVERY ROW CREATES A NICE TEXTURE FOR THE CACTUS!

EARTH (LIGHT BROWN)

Insert your hook into a stitch at the cactus’ bottom and pull a Loop through.

Insert it into the next stitch along the bottom and pull a loop through both the stitch and the first loop to make your first surface slip stitch.

Keep making surface slip stitches along the bottom of the cactus. The texture can help you find the right spots to work into.
1 surface slst around 12
2 inc x12 24

Cut a cardboard circle and glue it to the bottom of the pot so it will stay flat. We’re now going to connect the pot to the earth. Stuff the pot once you’ve connected most of the earth.

9 sc around through both the stitches of R8 and the earth’s front loops 32
10-11 sc around (2 rounds) 32
slst into the next stitch, fasten off and weave in the tail.

POT RIM (OPTIONAL)

Put a brown slip knot on your hook, hold the pot upside-down and crochet into the front loops of the pot’s R3 that you had left unworked.

4b tightly slst around 24
slst into the first stitch, fasten off and weave in the tail. This rim helps the pot stand more steadily!

3 sc around 9
4 (sc, dec) x3 8
Change to green yarn. Begin stuffing.

We’re now going to work into the back loops to make the green arm, and later reattach red yarn to the front loops to finish the glove.
Crochet with green yarn:
5 BLO: sc around 6
6 sc around 6
7 ch1, turn, dec x2, skip the other stitches 2
8 ch1, turn, dec 1

Fasten off and leave a tail for sewing. Put a red slip knot on your hook and crochet into the front Loops of R4 you had left unworked.

5b FLO: (inc, sc) x3 9
slst into the first stitch and fasten off. Weave in the tail.
Use a chopstick to stuff the arm.
Sew the arms to the sides of the cactus. Once you’ve sewn most of it on, use a chopstick to add some more stuffing to the shoulder.

HAIR THIN YELLOW YARN

1 (ch4, starting in the 2nd ch from the hook: slst, 2sc) x5 15

Fasten off and leave a long tail for Sewing. Sew the hair to the top of the cactus.

FACE

Cut out two circles and one smaller but longer oval shape from a black felt sheet. Glue them to the cactus.
You can trace the circles on the right and use them as a template. Feel free to get creative and create a different face!

Congrats, you did it!
